There are so many unique areas in Pittsburgh & Oakland it's almost impossible to mention them all here! Let's start with downtown Pittsburgh.
Downtown has several unique districts and probably the most popular is the Strip District. The area is currently under construction, but once it's finished it promises to have a ton of new photo opportunities! This area is great for walls of graffiti, warehouse-type images, or some really personality-filled images among the many ethnic shops and eateries.
The Market Square area is another great spot to get a variety of images. Here you have PPG Place and the PPG Plaza Fountain in the summer (& ice rink in the winter), & Market Square's cobblestone streets.
And of course you have the cultural district with the lights of the Byham, Heinz Hall, & Benedum Center.

There are a ton of hidden gems in Pittsburgh too, if you don't mind walking a bit between them. Uptown, you have the gorgeous Omni William Penn Hotel with Mellon Plaza across the street, Cherry Way with it's unique chalk mural and the Allegheny Club with it's wrought-iron gate and courtyard.
Oakland is home to the University of Pittsburgh and the area in and around campus is filled with unique places for photos. One of my favorite spots to photograph is in and around the Cathedral of Learning! I just LOVE those big red doors in the plaza and while pretty dark inside, you can get some gorgeous shots among the old world architecture if you use some off-camera lighting. Pitt's campus is a favorite among Stacey Lyn Seniors who are heading to Pitt in the fall! 5th Avenue has some great storefronts for Pitt-goers and provides the quintessential urban feel.
